Regardless of his lack of footnotes, I have found Carells works to be extremely readable, and well worth having on the bookshelves at home. One idea I have had is that I would love to (time permitting) compare Carells work with that of other authors who wrote from more of a Russian perspective (such as Glantz or others) on a battle to battle basis. Doing this may give a more true perspective on casualties and troop strengths for both sides. What authors do the rest of you prefer for reading regarding the Eastern Front?
