I recently finished Thomas Fleming's "The Illusion of Victory: America in World War I" and came across the name of one Joseph Caillaux. I did a cursory search online and read a bit about him. What I found interesting about him was his belief that France was probably going to be beaten by Germany, and that they (France) should form a union of sorts with Germany to reduce the impact of the war and improve French commerce. He also thought this league would include Germany, France, and Spain. Left out were Italy and Austro-Hungary, which was surprising.
Does anyone have anymore info on Caillaux?
