Wasn't there a case during World War II where some German soldiers went into a barn and found some Americans hiding there on Christmas Eve so they all put down their guns and had a few drinks together ? It's all part of the absurdity of war I guess. Then again the Battle Of The Bulge occurred around the holidays. I heard an interesting fact awhile ago which is the allies invented the proximity fuse during WW II which allowed their shells to detonate before they hit the ground. This had a devastating effect on the Germans. Nuts ! Jeff

A very Merry Christmas to all of you, this band of good Comrades !
No Christmass truce in WWII as in WWI, the world had changed to much for the worse. The notions of chivalry, just good olde fashioned idea of sportsmanship had all gone. The Eastern Front and the Pacific Theater of opperations were secepits of barbarity and debased behavior on a colossal scale that had now become the norm. At least here ... we gentle scholars, museing over our old tomes and engaging in esoteric debate have tried to hold onto those values which mankind has seen fit to discard as useless. This is the perfect time of the year with the promise of Redemption in the birth of Our Lord, to reflect on these values and renew our commitment to them.
